History of the American Film Industry from Its Beginnings to 1931
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (June, 1978)
Author: Benjamin Bowles Hampton
Average review score:

One of the Best
As a film student in the late 70's this book was required reading. I was so impressed with the research and storytelling that I didn't realize it was written 40 years earlier! An insiteful book that pretty much lays out the reality of the American Film Industry from 1910 through what would continue as the studio system (later to be disolved in the 50's as television and other conglomerates moved into the picture - no pun intended)

Hobbes and the Social Contract Tradition
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (November, 1986)
Author: Jean Hampton
Average review score:

Still one of the best.
This is one of the best books on Hobbes's political theory. Hampton is a clear author, and she does a fine job explaining both Hobbes's argument favoring a strong sovereign and where his argument falls short. A particular strength of this book is that she gives Hobbes a sympathetic reading but pulls no punches. The aim of the book is to take his most valuable ideas and to rework them to create a new and stronger social-contract theory.

I Couldn't Put This Book Down
I couldn't put this book down. I started reading it and read straight through. The story had a unique writing style that was very clear and concise. I don't know if I believe the story or not, but I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it highly to others.

Introductory Biological Statistics

Author: Raymond E. Hampton
Average review score:

Great Stats Intro!
If you're new to stats, or just keep forgetting the definition of chi squared, this is the book for you. Easy to read, good worked examples - both parametric and non-parametric (the autor will tell you what those are if you don't already know).
I use to borrow my roommates - now I'm buying my own as a handy reference.
NB. Does not go into a lot of detail of derivation.

A self-help book that focuses on learning more about oneself
Written by medical research consultant Virginia Burham in collaboration with psychiatrist William H. Hampton), Knowing Yourself is a self-help book that focuses on learning more about oneself, and using that knowledge and wisdom to improve both one's own lot and that of others. Individual chapters address distinctions in the self between men and women; aspects of sexuality; the workings of the brain; the makeup of personality, and more. A fascinating and involving read that embraces the classic wisdom of Socrates himself when he said, "Know thyself, for once we know ourselves, we may learn how to care for ourselves, but otherwise we never shall.", Knowing Yourself is an especially commended addition to Self-Help/Self-Improvement reading lists.

Mark Hampton: The Art of Friendship
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (27 November, 2001)
Author: Duane Hampton
Average review score:

Another Classic Mark Hampton Book
For those of us who love the wonderful watercolors of the late Mark Hampton, this book is essential. The watercolors in this book are of a very personal nature, whether interiors, architectural, or otherwise. I am pleased to own this book, and I will enjoy it as I do with the other two Mark Hampton books. Note that the price is somewhat steep (...), but given the way the other two books sell on the resale market for many times their list price, a good investment.
